Newest Kess v2 Review

Something wanna share with you all, about Kess v2 master clone

First of all I would say that it has probably the widest coverage of vehicles with its strengths in particular to older vehicles and Marques such as Ford and Jaguar. Having widest range of protocols meant that this tool, in particular the slave version being the number 1 choice for vehicle remapping franchises to build networks with. Putting the slave tool aside as this has no function to a professional chip tuner, lets look at the master version.
So apart from having the widest range of vehicles what else does the Kess V2 have going for it.

Features

For a start the GUI is very user friendly, this would be an advantage for novice users as all vehicles are set out individually with models and engines all separated so the user can easily identify the correct vehicle.
It also has a very broad help section, so every time you select a vehicle, the tool will automatically give information on correct cables to use or how to read the vehicle, again very user friendly.
There is on the master version a file back up folder where original files for some ID only vehicles can be stored, this enables the user to have an original file to hand instead of having to bootload the ECU or search for an original file.
Another plus for the Kess V2 is that it comes standard with a bootloader function for flashing some ECUs on the bench such as Bosch me7.x.x and Visteon DCU102 where a read function is unavailable.
The tool has industry standard features such as a battery real time monitor, a recovery function, scan tool function to clear down DTC’s and automatic checksum correction where available. On some ECUs a flash counter reset is also available.
Overall the Kess V2 is quite a stable tool 90% of the time. However, lets take a look at the negatives.

The Negatives

It does on occasion struggle with some protocols and with perseverance it usually manages the job.
Another downside to the Kess is it’s data transfer rate when reading out some vehicles. Some ECUs have been known to take up to 3 hours to read out. Even some basic Bosch EDC16 on Kline have taken up to an hour to read out.
This becomes more of a hindrance for busy tuning shops and mobile tuners as standing around for hours isn’t making money.

In Summary

I would score the Kess7/10.
Positives for me would be the coverage of older vehicles, and the ease of use with its GUI for dummies platform.
Negatives are long read times and instability with some controllers.  Alientech also seem to be the last to release new protocols.

Latest KESS V2 software Ksuite V2.25 V2.28 read BMW E90 ECU without issue

This blog will guide you how to install KESS V2 latest software Ksuite V2.25 on windows XP, and use this software to read BMW E90 ECU without issue. Hope it helps someone.

Step1: Install Ksuite V2.25
Open K-suite 2.25 setup wizard

Step2: Disable the network
You should disable all network connections

Step4: install software for USB device
Choose install the software automatically and click Next

KESS, KTAG, CMD or BDM100 which one is suitable for you?

How to choose right ECU chip tuning tool? Which ECU tuning tool to buy? KESS, KTAG, CMD or BDM100… All these questions confused you will disappear after reading ECU chip tuning tool buying advice in this blog!

First, you should know there are 4 ways to program ECU (according to car year and ECU types):
  1. Flashing ECU via OBD2 communication port
  2. Flashing ECU via a special BDM port that is on the ECU’s motherboard
  3. Flashing the ECU in boot mode, on the table
  4. Soldering the EEPROM out of the ECU and reprogramming ECU

  1. Now you start to know each ECU programming way and the recommended ECU tuning tools.
  2. Flashing ECU via OBD
You can flash most ECUs from 2000 to 2008 (and many of them even after 2008) via OBD port. All you need is an OBD flash tool, connect the tool with car via OBD and give your car’s battery stable 12V power supply. In this way you can read out ECU and flash the tuning file over the cable. It is the easiest and fastest way of reprogramming ECU.

  1. Flashing ECU via BDM
Most ECUs from 2002 to 2008 (and some later) have a special communication port on the motherboard called a BDM port. To access this port you need to take the ECU out of the car and open it. In this way ECU will receive a stable 12V power, and can be flashed over and over again. So this is most safe way for ECU programming. And you can also backup if something goes wrong with the flashing via OBD.

  1. Flashing ECU via Boot Mode
You need to take ECU out of the car, and program it on the table while connecting special cables to the ECU’s connector pins. Sometimes you also need to do some soldering, like adding resistors to the motherboard…

  1. Flashing via soldering EEPROM
You can use this way for older car ECUs and a big percentage of truck ECUs. You also need to take out the ECU, open it and desolder out the EEPROM chip. Then you can read EEPROM chip using an EEPROM programmer. After read, file is modified and then programmed back on a chip (or on a new, empty one). Then you solder the chip back into the ECU.

Kess v2 fw v4.036 Add Tokens Manual

This is a user manual of how to add tokens to Kess v2 firmware v4.036; also with how to fix “NO VALID TOKEN FILE” error when fail to add tokens.

NOTES:
1- this manual is used for Kess v2 tuning kit firmware v4.036
2- must be used for Kess v2 without a token reset button

3- Disable all local area connection and wireless network connection, otherwise the KESS V2 hardware would be damaged.
Process of adding tokens:
Extract “Tool” Zip File;
Copy all the files under “Tool” Folder to the desktop;
Copy “K-Suite_tokens” zip File into Local Dick C and unzip the file;
Run “K10033818 K2-TR ECU TUNERS”;
Click “OK” to continue;
Run-K10033818-K2-TR-ECU-TUNERS-3
Browse the folder to C:\\KSuite tokens\KSuite;
Click OK;

Click “Rest Token Count” button;

Click OK and then wait for loading;
Next close the window;
Delete previously unzipped “K-Suite_tokens” Folder in C:\\;
Re-extract “K-Suite_tokens” Zip File again;
Re-name “Token1.tok” on the desktop as “Token2.tok”;
Copy “Token2.tok” to the “Tokens” Folder;

How to solve “Add Tokens Failed:NO VALID TOKEN FILE
Tokens for Kess v2 ecu chip tuning tool is used out. Open the file “K10033818” and meet the following situation.
ECU-Tuner error: NO VALID TOKEN FILE
Ksuite-0
Ksuite-1
solution: 
1. rename the token file(“token1.tok”) as “token3.tok” or “token5.tok”
Ksuite-2
  1. copy the file you renamed just (“token3.tok” or “token5.tok” ) now to the folder “Tokens”Ksuite-3
note: make sure that there is only one file (“token3.tok” or “token5.tok” ) in the folder “Token”
Ksuite-4
normally, the first 10 tokens in “token1.tok” “token2.tok” will be used, you may use tokens from 11th token to the 100th.
it is limited to 100 tokens. so when you use all 100 tokens, you can change the laptop or restore the system and then use tokens from 11th token.

4. If you cannot add tokens according to the instruction above, change the TF card and follow step 1 & 2.

Q: I am wondering now what is the solution to unlock your ECU?
What to do to avoid your ECU become locked?
A: EDC15/16 can unlock by using KESS V2 V2.15 OBD2 Tuning Kit without Token Limitation.

Q: I will start program EDC16, fiat/alfa/lancia, which hardware is probably better, KESS V2 or Galletto?
A: KESS v2 is better one with no token limitation and no checksum error.

Q: Which computer system can KEES V2 be installed on?
A: KESS V2 can install it on Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Q: How to update KESS V2 from Software V2.15 Hardware V3.099 to Software V2.22
Hardware V4.036?
A: Well, SE87-B can be updated to SE87-C, but need to send back the main device and pay 95USD. Please don’t update it yourself, or it will damage the firmware of KESS v2.

Q: What is the difference between KESS V2 and K-TAG?
A: Beside world-wide famous brand cars, K-TAG also supports trucks, traktors, bikes and work with a small part of motorcycle. Otherwise, KESS V2 has OBD function (means KESS V2 program ECU by OBD diagnostic cable) while K-TAG doesn’t have.

Q: What is the difference Between KESS V2 Tuning kit and Fgtech V53?
A: They both can do many cars, but they do cars via different ways. Fgtech V53 has BDM function, but KESS V2 does not have. KESS V2 has Anti-mediation lock module, it can do new and encrypted cars better than Fgtech V53.

Q: Someone told me that KESS V2 can’t do EDC17 well, such as Bosch EDC 17 (cp04-CP14-CAN-Med17.X) and Bosch Bosch EDC 17 C54 (Passat, Golf, Crafter, Octávia, Yeti-VW).
A: Yes, KESS V2 can’t do EDC17 at present. It can do EDC16 well, but when you do it, you need to connect the Anti-mediation lock module to read and write data for vehicles. Becuase new style vehicles have new encrypted ways.

Q: How many kinds of languages does KESS V2 support?
A: Supported language including English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French.

Q: When KESS V2 read ECU, I got checksum error.
A: Please search “visual C++ 2005 library” on Google, then download it and install it, this error will be solved.

Q: How does KESS V2 checksums work? Does KESS V2 automatically confirm and rewrite? Does KESS v2 work with truck? Such as: Mercedes MP1/MP2/MP3 or MAN TGA.
A: After reading the software, KESS v2 will automatically calibrate checksums. KESS V2 doesn’t work with truck, because the truck voltage is too high and KESS V2 will be burnt out.

Q: How to connect KESS V2 to K-LINE med 17, do you have any manual or diagram?
A: If your car is OBD diagnostic socket, just plug the OBD cable into the car; if your car is not OBD diagnostic socket, after you select the ECU type in the KESS V2 software, the diagram will appear and show you how to connect (see the following pictures)

Q: When I use KESS V2 and choose the version 12, 8L E4, type D13B, HP 400, ECU TRW EMS2,”OK” button is not available.
A: “OK” button not available means KESS V2 doesn’t support this car model. Besides, KESS V2 only covers car models, not trucks.

Q: After I open “KSuite.exe” and ready to run KESS V2, all of the following icons are gray and locked, I can’t go on.

Kess v2 fw v4.036 Add Tokens Manual

This is a user manual of how to add tokens to Kess v2 firmware v4.036; also with how to fix “NO VALID TOKEN FILE” error when fail to add tokens.

NOTES:

2- must be used for Kess v2 without a token reset button


3- Disable all local area connection and wireless network connection, otherwise the KESS V2 hardware would be damaged.
Process of adding tokens:
Extract “Tool” Zip File;
Copy all the files under “Tool” Folder to the desktop;
Copy “K-Suite_tokens” zip File into Local Dick C and unzip the file;
Run “K10033818 K2-TR ECU TUNERS”;
Click “OK” to continue;

Browse the folder to C:\\KSuite tokens\KSuite;
Click OK;



Click “Rest Token Count” button;


Click OK and then wait for loading;
Next close the window;
Delete previously unzipped “K-Suite_tokens” Folder in C:\\;
Re-extract “K-Suite_tokens” Zip File again;
Re-name “Token1.tok” on the desktop as “Token2.tok”;
Copy “Token2.tok” to the “Tokens” Folder;


Open “K10033818 K2-TR ECU TUNERS” again;
Select location as C:\KSuite tokens\KSuite again;
Click “Rest Token Count”;
Wait until the KESS V2 main menu window displays;
